Mike began his career in the petro-chemical industry as a chemical operator and member of the Channel Industries Mutual Aid Fire Team – a position he held for 10 years. In 1986, he joined the City of Galveston Fire Department, where he has worked ever since and is known as “Sarge.” An active member of the Galveston Firefighters Children’s Parade Committee, Mike recently spearheaded the formation of the Galveston County Wild Land Task Force. The organization provides rescue mutual aid assistance with amphibious vehicles (M548) and fire equipment during extreme situations and emergencies. In his spare time, Mike likes to tinker, making unique art from old metal parts and restoring Jeeps.
