Rachel Wiley Janota is a working artist living in Galveston, TX.
"I grew up with two beautiful sisters and two loving parents in the piney woods of Conroe, TX. Since moving to Galveston in 2007 I have enjoyed working with children through the Education Outreach program at the Galveston Arts Center and volunteering as a Biologist Aide at the Rainforest of Moody Gardens. Originally I began studying Biology at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX, and now, years later, I am working as a Painter, Photographer, Raku ceramics novice, and Art Gallery Assistant, while attending classes at the University of Houston at Clear Lake. I’m married to a wonderful man from Oregon and we have two extraordinary dogs that rarely leave our sides. In 2009, my parents opened an art gallery on Postoffice Street to represent my mother, René Wiley, a professional oil painter, and it has been a unique way to get to know Galveston and it’s many visitors. As an artist I’m fascinated with exploring different perspectives and contexts through diverse media, always choosing to expose my own vantage point in the processes. I am attempting to thoughtfully see, and create, and learn as much as possible in the short life that I’ve been given, and I aspire to reflect the sincerity of these interests in all of my artworks. I am especially excited to get to spend more time uncovering the many layers of the city of Galveston through participating in the TWELVE project."
